BE AN OPTIMIST
THE OPTIMIST is more than a film — it’s the driving force behind a national impact campaign designed to spark change.
After remaining silent about his Holocaust experience for decades, Herbert Heller found his voice later in life, speaking to thousands of children in schools and sharing his story of survival. His extraordinary journey opens the door to urgent conversations about resilience, remembrance, and the need for action. At the heart of this work are 2G and 3G dialogues — children and grandchildren of survivors — including the Heller family, whose voices keep this history alive while making it urgently relevant for today.
Our national screening campaign will bring the film to communities across the country, engaging audiences committed to remembrance, resilience, and taking action. We will foster intergenerational dialogue and empower our young changemakers to make choices today that can inspire hope for generations to come.
By joining us, you help turn Herbert’s story into a movement rooted in hope, compassion, and connection—showing that when we show up for our community, we can transform the world around us.
It’s time to jump in — take the first step today.
He came out of the darkness… to bring her into the light.
Herbert Heller was a light for thousands of students, and to all who knew him. In Herbert’s honor, we pledge to:
